Rather then being a full-length book, Poirot Investigates is a collection of short stories involving the incredible deductive powers of Hercule Poirot. I've read Poirot stories before but never have I been so struck by the obvious similarities to Sherlock Holmes. The characters Poirot and Hastings so parallel Holmes and Watson that I'm certain it was deliberate. And it was well done.
This book contains 14 short stories. In each the magnificent powers of Hercule's little grey cells are employed to deduce the truth in an otherwise shrouded mystery. Even up to the very last story in which Poirot's deductive skills lead him to the wrong conclusion, he remains insufferably arrogant. Yet this is large part of the charm of these stories.
It is a pleasure to read these stories.
