I read the craziest article on MSNBC.com today. Apparently some clerk actually accepted a $200 bill from a customer. The article is here. But this didn't happen just once! It happened in two different places. In once case someone used the $200 bill to pay for $99 dollars of stuff. In the other case someone used the $200 bill to buy a $2 item at a Dairy Queen. The obliging clerk paid the customer back $198 in change.
I can just imagine the kid after the customer leaves. He grabs the $200 bill from the drawer and goes back to his friends. "Hey, have you guys ever seen a $200 bill! It's pretty amazing." At which point they would all start laughing. Come on. I think that if someone tried to give me a $200 bill, or anything more than a $100, I would double check it before taking it.
I don't know if there is a legitamate $500 bill. But if someone tried to give me one I don't think I'd take it. Especially if it had a picture of George W Bush on the front and a picture of the whitehouse with lawn signs saying "No More Brocoli" on the back!
Crazy people. Maybe they shouldn't be working with money.
