Welcome back to the world of Dodgeball. Some of us prefer to forget about those high-school PE torture sessions and others of us smile when we remember the fun of this PE teacher staple. I was pretty wimpy in high-school so I didn't do all that well at the game. But I still enjoyed it. I also enjoy funny movies.
This movie is certainly funny and is certainly about dodgeball. But, unfortunately, it is way too crude for my tastes. The potty humor and sexual inuendo are overdone to the point of detracting from the rest of the movie.
Sometimes Ben Stiller is just too silly and sometimes he's too dry. In Dodgeball, though, he captured the perfect balance. His character, White Goodman, is played perfectly. He's a "vertically challenged" guy who has invested his entire self-worth into his gym and his ability to have whatever he wants. However, he doesn't have the brain power to back up the muscle power. But he thinks he does. Over and over again Stiller delivers perfect one-liners and hilarious antics.
There's quite a bit more in the movie that I found pretty funny. But despite this I still left the movie feeling disappointed. It could have been so much better without the adolescent junk.
