Ironman continues the Hollywood trend of making movies out of comic book characters. Without a doubt Ironman is the best comic book movie made to date. Great characters and great story. It probably helps that the cast includes such accomplished talents as Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenthyn Paltrow. These two play their roles wonderfully and make the movie a treat. Normally I'm not inclined to see a movie more than once but I'll be making an exception for this one.
From the 50,000 foot level the story is pretty standard comic book fare. A rich playboy, Tony Stark, finds himself on the losing end of a bad situation which transforms him into a being with superhuman powers. Using his intelligence and seemingly unending resources he harnesses and hones his new powers and discovers that he can use them for good. Along with the physical transformation Stark begins to recognize the selfish indulgence in his previous life. He vows then to use his company's resources to start benefiting humanity instead of taking from it. This is a solid movie. Fun to watch. I recommend it to any looking for a great summer blockbuster. |
