Outlining the Property Print
Written by Mike Noel

ImageThe next major step in the construction of our house was the outlining of the property.  In this step the crew creates a rough outline of the exteriors walls to the structure.  This border is used to give the ditch diggers (next step) information about where to dig ditches.  It's also used to make sure that the structure is far enough away from the street and neighboring homes.
We were pretty excited to see the outline of our house.  This was the first real, tangible thing we had that we could look at.  Well, true, we could have looked at the leveled lot, but it was hard to imagine the house there.

But with the outline we could see where the garage was, where the front door was.  We even walked through the house a bit to see what is was like.

This picture shows the outline from a distance.  It is facing the back of the house.  The left section is actually our patio, it's quite large, which is covered with a balcony on the second floor.  Actually, we chose to pass on the $12k option to build the balcony.  But the covering is there.  We can add the balcony  later.

The area where I'm standing to take the picture is where we'll put our swimming pool.  The righthand side of the backyard will be a grassy area for the kids to play in.
