To round things out nicely I'll add my 5th goal for the year. I've considered this one a bit more than the others because it seems like an ambitious goal for me yet at the same time it seems like a pitifully small goal. Kinda like if my running goal was to run a total of 10 miles this year. But if I don't make a goal then I'm in danger of not even meeting the already low expectations. This has lead me to go ahead and see what happens. After all of that lead up, my fifth goal is to play my bass at least 100 hours this year. By "playing" I mean practicing, rehearsing, gigging, and any other situation where I have the bass around. That's not really a lot of playing, unfortunately. That's less than 2 hours per week. Back when I was in highschool we were expected to practice 30 minutes each day. If I did that now I'd be well over 180 hours for the year. Then if you add rehearsals and gigs on top of that (if I was in a band...) then a decent player can easily see multiple hundreds of hours per year.
But i will start small nonetheless. With all my other responsibilities I just don't have the time to devote more practice time. I guess that's just the way it is. It's a good thing that I'm not trying to make a living by bass playing. |
