The question came up the other day when I was talking with friends. Are cellphones dangerous on airplanes? I used to think that they weren't but then I did a bit of research and found that there is some evidence that there might be a small risk. Or course there is quite a bit of controversy about this. I guess my thoughts now are that if there is a chance then I may as well reduce the risk. But if cellphones really can be dangerous then I think airlines would eliminate them entirely.
If a bunch of activated cellphones can mess up a plane then what is stopping a bunch of maliciously minded people from getting on a plane and "forgetting" to turn off their phone when requested. I'm certain that this sort of scenario has been considered by the security people who try and make sure we're all safe. If they are OK with it then I guess I'm OK with it. And since we can still take phones on the plane, I guess they are OK with it.
