Some days I actually miss Arizona. It's not only the weather, although it would be nice to have a tad bit more sun. But a lot of it is the people we knew there. We have a lot of family that lived near us. We miss them. We had a growing number of friends at church and we miss them. I also had friends at work and I miss them. Sometimes I wish that transportation was so fast and inexpensive that we could all go anywhere we want within just a few minutes.
I read a sci-fi book once that had instant transporting booths. You just stepped into a booth, indicated where you wanted to be, then stepped out of the booth. I have no idea what the book was. But the idea is intriguing. It has stuck with me for all these years. Now that I'm older and a bit more cautious I wonder, though, if there wouldn't be more problems that not. I mean, sometimes physical distance is a good thing. Sometimes we want to be far away from certain people.
I guess it goes without saying that if such a device existed, the world would be a very different place.
