Weird Science Print
Written by Mike Noel
Sunday, 12 November 2006
A friend of mine has been sending me lots of links to articles about strange and fringe science topics. Things like transporters, anti-gravity, cold fusion, and the like. For anyone who has been fascinated by science fiction stories these all have a bit of interest. They always make you think "what if...". Although these topics are very much on the fringe by "normal" standards, it is surprising to see that many of the researchers and scientists involved are very serious about their work. And they are not slouches either. Many of them have Ph.D. degrees and years of experience in national laboratories. So what makes them turn from traditional science to these things? Maybe there is something there.

Whatever Happened To Thanksgiving? Print
Written by Mike Noel
Friday, 10 November 2006
A few decades from now I'm going to be sitting by the fire with a blanket over my lap and a book in my hands. It will be a chilly November as the weather outside transitions from Fall to Winter. After a few minutes the grandkids burst in racing through the house. Seeing me sitting there they will ask, "Grandpa, tell us a story! Please???". Slowly I'll put my book down and give their anticipation time to grow. Then I'll start, "Back when I was younger, right around this time of year, we used to celebrate a holiday called Thanksgiving". One of the more impulsive and inquisitive of the kids blurts out, "Thanksgiving? What's that? We've never heard of it." Another kid says "Oh I remember. That's the holiday where they used to give everyone turkeys or something.". The smallest girl of the bunch says, "Oh! I want a turkey. They are cute."

The Sprinklers Are Almost Done Print
Written by Mike Noel
Thursday, 09 November 2006
I'm excited. The sprinkler system in my backyard is just about done. This is something I've been working on for over 1 year! I'm very slow at it. This morning I put heads on one line and tried it out. They all worked as expected. I'm very happy about it. There's more to the story though. This has been an interesting "life lesson" for me. It has taught me a lot about being able to approach a large project that I don't fully understand but make progress on it.

The Deliquent Blogger Print
Written by Mike Noel
Wednesday, 08 November 2006
I think I should rename my blog "the deliquent blogger" because I am always so late in providing blog articles. Every once in a while I get an urge to pledge myself to writing every day in the blog. Of course this new found ambition lasts for only a few days and then I lose interest.

Have It Your Way Print
Written by Mike Noel
Wednesday, 28 June 2006
Today I received an email message on a mailing list from a lady who was begging us all to avoid a restaurant in our town. She had visited the restaurant for lunch and felt that their customer service was horrible. The tuna melt sandwich she had ordered was more onion than tuna. Her stomach was not up to eating so many onions so she sent her boyfriend to complain to the owner about it. The owner said that there was nothing wrong with the sandwich and said if they wanted something else they were welcome to buy another item. The boyfriend did. He bought something else for her and took it back to the table. When she found out that he had to buy something else she was furious. She went to the owner and confronted him demanding a refund for the inedible tuna melt. The owner refused and asked them to leave and not return.
