I admit it. I like to play boardgames. Unfortunately most boardgames that are available here in the US are quite boring. This, of course, leads to the general impression that all board games are boring. So untrue! In other countries (particularly European countries and Japan) boardgames are very fun and exciting and popular. If the boardgames from those countries were to make their way into the American mainstream I bet a lot more people would enjoy playing games.
This is starting to happen to a small degree. The game The Settlers Of Catan was a big breakthrough game here in the US. I believe it has sold 3 million copies. We have this game and love it. Nearly everyone who has played it with us finds it to be very fun too. I'm hoping that more of these better boardgames start making inroads in the US. It would be nice to be able to find more gaming partners for adult couples.
